JOINING TOY PIECES TOGETHER
To sew seams of the toy use a mattress stitch. It is very good choice for sewing almost invisible vertical seams on stockinette stitch.

Pattern says to sew on buttons but no mention of making button holes!
Clothes for toys are tiny projects and you add small buttons only so there you need not to knit button holes. That is why make buttonholes on loose knits by simply slipping the button through the stitch.
